The galaxies of our night sky are diverse and colorful, and as tranquil as any garden. Looking back at the ancient universe, a different picture emerges: that of a cosmos buzzing with activity, teeming with the fresh growth of stars and black holes. How did the processes that formed our Milky Way begin? Why did they stop? Where did it all come from?
